Lettera settembre 2026

Carissime Amiche, carissimi Amici,

       ci ritroviamo dopo la pausa estiva, che mi auguro sia stata per Voi tutti un momento di vero relax, così da ripartire con rinnovata energia ed endemico entusiasmo.

Agosto ha portato con sé, in tutti i sensi, molto CALORE!

Alte temperature, ma soprattutto tante emozioni che resteranno nel Nostro cuore.

Non possiamo dimenticare il 2 agosto al Teatro Antico di Taormina.

Essere lì è stato molto più di un semplice evento rotariano!

Abbiamo percepito la solidità delle pietre millenarie sulle quali hanno mosso i loro passi Greci e Romani.  Quelle pietre costituiscono non solo la Nostra storia ma anche il Nostro futuro.

E’ stato magico perdersi nel cielo infinito, colmo di quelle stelle che già i Nostri Antenati osservavano tremila anni fa, ma, soprattutto, abbiamo percepito la forza della coesione del Nostro Distretto.

Siamo pietre miliari su cui le Nostre comunità possono contare.

E lo siamo su due sponde del Mediterraneo, Sicilia e Malta, con radici e uno sguardo che vanno ben oltre i singoli confini.

Grazie a chi c’era! A chi ha lavorato per giorni senza risparmiarsi.

È stato un momento di grazia. È stato il nostro essere, finalmente, corresponsabili di bellezza e coprotagonisti del “donare” alla Rotary Foundation!

Ma non ci siamo fermati.

Le visite amministrative ai Club sono continuate.

E così, anche questo caldo mese estivo ha rappresentato un momento di arricchimento, di scambio di idee non soltanto con i Presidenti e i consigli direttivi, ma con tutti i soci dei Club Rotary, Rotaract ed Interact.

Abbiamo condiviso le numerose iniziative già avviate, ascoltato quelle che sono in cantiere e che a breve partiranno sotto la spinta di chi le ha pensate, volute e concretizzate. Abbiamo con gioia accolto nuovi soci nel Nostro sodalizio,  a testimonianza che i Club ben lavorano per lo sviluppo dell’effettivo.

Quanta forza propulsiva  a fare meglio  è emersa da questi incontri!

Ho avuto la gioia di raccogliere anche tantissimo consenso al progetto RO.SA: ciò che liberamente i club hanno voluto donare, per la realizzazione del progetto, mi ha commossa e mi ha dato la forza e il coraggio di andare oltre.

Non sono mancate anche le prime iniziative di area, che hanno avuto come protagonista il libro dell’anno.

Due sono state le presentazioni organizzate: il 22 agosto a Palazzo Trabia nella città di Santo Stefano di  Camastra per l’Area Peloritana; e il 27 agosto a Trapani per l ‘Area Drepanum.

Due momenti che sono stati veri abbracci della comunità; con interventi di spessore e un folto numero di partecipanti.

Tutti i Club  delle due aree, infatti, sono stati  ben rappresentati, segno tangibile dell’ orgoglio dell’appartenenza ai propri luoghi.

Con questo progetto editoriale, curato dal PDG Carlo Marullo di Condojanni, si è scelto di far sì che i Club raccontassero le loro storie: le Piazze quali luogo dell’incontro e della democrazia; e le Fontane, simbolo di vita e di abbondanza.

Ogni pagina del testo, ogni foto, rappresentano un atto d’amore per la Nostra terra; il racconto della Nostra identità; la Nostra risposta più bella al degrado e all’indifferenza.

“Quando le pietre parlano: Piazze e Fontane di Sicilia e Malta” è un titolo che si è trasformato concretamente nel manifesto del Nostro Amore per il territorio e della Cultura come Service.

A chiudere il cerchio di quello che doveva essere soltanto un mese di vacanza, è stata – infine – la notizia di un nuovo primato che il Nostro Distretto ha raggiunto: il primo lascito testamentario alla Rotary Foundation che ci permette di annoverare nella nostra storia il primo Rotariano Bequest Society di Livello 6.

Ma ora siamo a Settembre!

Ed è un mese tutto da vivere. Per il Rotary settembre è il mese dell’Alfabetizzazione ed educazione di base.

Credo di poter parlare a nome di tutti quando affermo che l’alfabetizzazione costituisce un presupposto importante per poter vivere in maniera più consapevole, critica e creativa la nostra vita.

Alfabetizzare non significa solo insegnare a leggere e scrivere. Significa dare valore alle parole per dare libertà.

Significa fornire strumenti per scegliere, per essere scelti, per poter diventare cittadini attivi. Se desideriamo costruire comunità più giuste, dobbiamo tenere a mente che tutto nasce prima di tutto dall’educazione.

Ed è proprio questo che il nostro Distretto fa, ogni giorno, con i service nelle scuole, con i progetti di alfabetizzazione locali, con i progetti realizzati mediante i District Grant e i Global Grant.

Siamo consapevoli che in un mondo che cambia velocemente, l’alfabetizzazione è digitale, culturale, emotiva. È la capacità di leggere le sfide del nostro tempo e di dare risposte!

Saremo pertanto protagonisti con due incontri distrettuali che rappresentano l’idea di istruzione, nel senso più ampio del termine.

Fra pochi giorni, il 6 settembre ci incontreremo  all’Outlet di Agira per la manifestazione conclusiva del progetto “La Storia delle Donne Straordinarie”.

Come ben sapete, tutti i club sono stati invitati ad indicare una “donna straordinaria”. Oltre 65 club hanno aderito al progetto.

Giorno 6, anche alla presenza del nostro PRIP Francesco Arezzo e di tante Autorità Rotariane, daremo voce a tutte queste donne fantastiche. Non ci sarà una vincitrice. Sono tutte vincitrici del riconoscimento più importante che si possa desiderare: lasciare un segno tangibile nella società attraverso le proprie esperienze personali, professionali, di vita quotidiana.

Queste donne, che invitiamo tutte ad intervenire e a partecipare ai lavori di tutta la giornata,  con il loro esempio guidano, ispirano, educano. E per lo più lo fanno senza il glamour delle copertine di un giornale o senza i like dei social. Perché si è straordinarie anche nel semplice gesto quotidiano.

Non dimentichiamoci che “alfabetizzare” significa anche educare al rispetto, all’uguaglianza e alla valorizzazione non soltanto dei talenti ma anche della semplicità di chi vive le proprie battaglie sempre con un sorriso o con un gesto di amore per il prossimo.

Concluderemo il mese nella magica cornice di Siracusa, al Teatro  Massimo sito in Ortigia: il Nostro  Distretto ha la grande opportunità di ospitare la “Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel”, una istituzione che nasce già nel lontano 1939 e che, da allora, rappresenta un centro di formazione e di eccellenza dalla portata e dalla reputazione internazionale. Avremo tutti l’occasione di assistere ad uno spettacolo che già, alcuni di noi, hanno apprezzato a Bruxelles nel corso del Fusion Summit che si è svolto nel mese di settembre 2025. 

Non dimentichiamo che anche la Musica è un’alta forma di alfabetizzazione dell’anima ed ecco perché ritengo che i 200 posti disponibili saranno subito impegnati (non appena sarà aperta la possibilità dell’acquisto on line).

Cogliamo l’opportunità di assistere al Gran Concerto “ DIVINE ARMONIE” di questa famosa orchestra  mercoledì 30 settembre perché “ Ubi musica, ibi gaudium”

Dearest Friends,

                 we’re meeting again after the summer break, which I hope has been a truly relaxing time for you all, so we can start again with renewed energy and endemic enthusiasm.

August brought with it, in every sense, a lot of HEAT!

High temperatures, but above all, many emotions that will remain in our hearts.

We cannot forget August 2nd at the Teatro Antico of Taormina.

Being there was much more than a simple Rotary event!

We felt the solidity of the ancient stones upon which the Greeks and Romans walked. Those stones constitute not only our history but also our future.

It was magical to lose ourselves in the infinite sky, filled with those stars that our ancestors already observed three thousand years ago, but, above all, we felt the strength of our District’s cohesion.

We are milestones on which our communities can count.

And we are on two shores of the Mediterranean, Sicily and Malta, with roots and a vision that extend far beyond our individual borders.

Thanks to those who were there! To those who worked tirelessly for days.

It was a moment of grace. It was our being, finally, co-responsible for beauty and co-protagonists of “donating” to the Rotary Foundation!

But we didn’t stop.

The administrative visits to the Clubs continued.

And so, even this hot summer month represented a moment of enrichment, of exchanging ideas not only with the Presidents and Boards of Directors, but with all the members of the Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact Clubs.

We shared the numerous initiatives already underway, listened to those in the pipeline and which will soon be launched, driven by those who conceived, desired, and brought them to fruition. We joyfully welcomed new members into our association, demonstrating that the Clubs work hard to develop their membership.

What a driving force to do better emerged from these meetings!

I also had the joy of garnering tremendous support for the RO.SA project: the clubs’ freely donated contributions to the project moved me and gave me the strength and courage to go further.

The first area initiatives were also held, featuring the book of the year.

Two presentations were organized: on August 22nd at Palazzo Trabia in the city of Santo Stefano di Camastra for the Peloritana Area; and on August 27th in Trapani for the Drepanum Area.

Two moments that were true community embraces, with thoughtful presentations and a large number of participants.

All the clubs in the two areas were well represented, a tangible sign of the pride of belonging to their places.

With this editorial project, curated by PDG Carlo Marullo di Condojanni, we chose to have the Clubs tell their stories: the Squares as places of meeting and democracy; and the Fountains, symbols of life and abundance.

Every page of text, every photo, represents an act of love for our land; the story of our identity; our most beautiful response to degradation and indifference.

“When Stones Speak: Squares and Fountains of Sicily and Malta” is a title that has become a concrete manifesto of our love for the territory and of Culture as Service.

Finally, closing the circle of what was supposed to be just a month’s vacation, was the news of a new record achieved by our District: the first bequest to the Rotary Foundation, allowing us to count in our history the first Level 6 Rotarian Bequest Society.

But now it’s September!

And it’s a month to be fully experienced. For Rotary, September is Basic Education and Literacy Month.

I believe I can speak for everyone when I say that literacy is an important prerequisite for living our lives more consciously, critically, and creatively.

Literacy isn’t just about teaching people to read and write. It means valuing words to give them freedom.

It means providing tools to choose, to be chosen, to become active citizens. If we want to build more just communities, we must keep in mind that everything begins with education.

And this is precisely what our District does every day, with school services, with local literacy projects, and with projects implemented through District Grants and Global Grants.

We are aware that in a rapidly changing world, literacy is digital, cultural, and emotional. It is the ability to understand the challenges of our time and provide answers!

We will therefore be leading the way with two district meetings that represent the idea of ​​education, in the broadest sense of the term.

In a few days, on September 6th, we will meet at the Agira Outlet for the final event of the “Story of Extraordinary Women” project.

As you well know, all clubs were invited to nominate an “extraordinary woman.” Over 65 clubs have joined the project.

On Day 6, in the presence of our PRIP Francesco Arezzo and many Rotarian Authorities, we will give voice to all these fantastic women. There will not be a single winner. They are all recipients of the most important recognition one could wish for: leaving a tangible mark on society through their personal, professional, and everyday experiences.

These women, all of whom we invite to attend and participate in the day’s proceedings, guide, inspire, and educate through their example. And for the most part, they do so without the glamour of magazine covers or social media likes. Because even in simple everyday gestures, we are extraordinary. 

Let’s not forget that “literacy” also means teaching respect, equality, and the appreciation not only of talent but also of the simplicity of those who face their struggles with a smile or a gesture of love for others.

We will conclude the month in the magical setting of Syracuse, at the Teatro Massimo located in Ortigia: our District has the great opportunity to host the “Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel,” an institution founded way back in 1939 and which, since then, has been a center of education and excellence with an international reach and reputation. We will all have the opportunity to attend a performance that some of us already appreciated in Brussels during the Fusion Summit, which took place in September 2025.

Let’s not forget that music is also a high form of spiritual literacy, and that’s why I believe the 200 available seats will be filled immediately (as soon as online purchase is available).We’re taking this opportunity to attend the “DIVINE ARMONIE” Grand Concert by this renowned orchestra on Wednesday, September 30th, because ” Ubi musica, ibi gaudium”.
